Gipsy Kings'de gayet iyi bir performansı vardır bu şarkıda. Bu şarkının hikayesi olarak şöyle bir rivayet vardır;

"1969 yazında hikâyenin kahramanı olan adam uzun bir seyahate çıkar ve yolu Kaliforniya'dan geçerken dinlenmek için Hotel California’yı bulur... Ufak sevimli bir oteldir. Sıcak bir havası vardır. Bir odaya yerleştirirler.

Oteldeki ikinci gününde odasının hemen yanındaki odada kalan kızla tanışır. Arkadaş olurlar. Birlikte gezmeye başlarlar. Çok fazla zaman geçmeden birbirlerine âşık olurlar. Ve tatili Hotel California’da birlikte geçirmeye karar verirler.

Çok severler birbirlerini. Bütün bir yaz hep beraberdirler. Otelin sıcak insanları, sevimliliği, sadeliği onları çok etkilemiştir. Unutamayacakları bir yaz, bir sevgi yaşarlar. Yazın bitiminde bir karar vermek zorundadırlar ayrılık için. Ve şöyle derler: "Eğer 1 sene sonra birbirimizi unutmaz ve yine bu kadar çok sevecek olursak, gelecek yazın ilk gününde (tanıştıkları günü kastederek) Hotel California’da buluşacağız".

Otelin oraya geldiğinde kapkara bir bina bulur. Otel önceki gün yanmıştır. Sevdiği adamla buluşmak için 1 gün önceden otele gelen kız ise gece çıkan yangında ölmüştür. Adam otele gelirken sevdiği kızla bir ömür yaşamayı, birlikte olmayı düşünürken, onu bir ömür kaybeder."
